Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling

Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), a component of Warfighter & Family Readiness, is a comprehensive network of quality support and leisure services that enhances the lives of Service members, Civilians, Families, military retirees and other eligible participants. MWR strives to provide a quality of life to the Navy-Air Force Family commensurate with their sacrifice and service.

The Navy-Air Force Half Marathon is an annual race hosted by Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR). This prestigious race began in 2004 as the Navy 5 Miler and has grown to over 10,000 runners! The year 2017 will mark the 6th year for the Half Marathon and the 14th year for the 5-Miler. Our mission is to foster and support high productivity for our Navy-Air Force audience through mental and physical fitness, personal growth, a sense of community, positive values and Family well-being. The event will take place on Sunday, September 17, 2017 in Washington, D.C .

Race History

The Naval Support Activity Washington, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) started the Navy 5-Miler in 2004 in celebration of the Navy’s Birthday. The event organization has since transitioned to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) MWR as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) initiative. The BRAC initiative merged the Navy’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation with the Air Force’s Services Division on Anacostia Naval Annex and Bolling Air Force Base, respectively. The mission of JBAB Morale, Welfare and Recreation is to provide quality support and recreational services that contribute to the retention, readiness, mental, physical and emotional well being of our active duty personnel and Department of Defense employees. All proceeds will go to supporting these programs and services that improve the quality of life for the United States active duty military and their families.
